FACES

The band was active through 68-76. The band is English. Their music is what i call 'very entertaining'. Rod Stewart and Ronnie Lane are the vocalists: Ronnie Lane being also the guitar player, and Rod Stewart the vocalist extraordinaire. Most of the vocals are by Rod Stewart. He sure has a raspy voice. You know the story, as Rod rises to fame he neglects the band's works and goes for a solo career, where he guests many FACES members. The band splits.Ronnie Lane can not resist any more of Rod's caprices, he forms the'Slim Chance', Ron Wood joins Rolling Stones(bassist of Faces), Kenny Jones(drummer) goes to Who, and Ian McLagan(the keyboardist)goes for a fledgling solo career. Towards the end of the band's life span a Japanese drummer was included.(Tetsu)

LONGPLAYER(1971)
In this album you generally confront pieces of songs not as slow as blues rock and not as fast as RnR. This album is mature. They sound slower in this album relative to their ''OOH LA LA''album.Stewart opens the stage with 'Bad 'n' Ruin'. A rocker.Listen to this song and see what rock music is. In 'Sweet Lady Mary', you hear no drums, just vocals and the electric guitar 'Sweet Lady Mary' is an example of folk rock number. 'Maybe I'm Amazed' is the magnificient Paul McCartney cover. I do not have the original, but the cover is very well sung by Stewart. I should say as ''FACES'', everyone does his part very well. It is known that they have had great impact on the later coming punk groups' playing styles. 'Had Me A Real Good Time' seems to be a rock and roll piece. It makes you dance, it is catchy, rhythmic. A saxophone is used in this one(towards the end). Usage of saxophone takes this to the jazzy side. For my part i do not prefer anything other than the guitars(all), the bass guitars and the drum(s). Sometimes Not even the keyboard(one should listen to Bruce Springsteen's BORN TO RUN album-'night','backstreets' to feel keyboard along organ). 'I Feel So Good' is a bluesy Willie Broonzy cover. Let me tell you the story behind buying this album: One day i asked to my aunt's husband, Lutfi Can, to come with me down to the store and choose a rocker(he is in his 50's and he is a real rock listener) He chose this one, i was very new to rock those times(in 1998), i listened to the cd and said to myself:'This is horrible'. But time passed i listened over and over to get the appreciation. At the end, i was thanking God that i owned this album.

OOH LA LA(1973)
Looking at the album cover, i wonder who the man is? Not a single cover song in this album. All by the crew.Of course, some are only by a single group member. 'Silicone Grown' is a hard rocker, i do not like it very much. 'Cindy Incidentally' is one of the songs at the core of this album[cindy, ain't you noticed that several of your friends have moved on]. 'Flags and Banners' sung by Ron Lane, is too short[last night i was woken by my cry. had a dream just as you and i], but pleasing to listen to(for my part). 'My Fault'(do you know LED ZEPPELIN's 'Nobody's Fault But Mine') is the dessert before 'Borstal Boys'. [cell block five, how i hate bromide] 'Fly in The Ointment'(disgusting to think of)is instrumental and is written by all, but Stewart. 'If I'm On The Late Side', 'Glad and sorry', 'Just Another Honky' are 7th, 8th and 9th songs in the row. And we come to the eponymous song 'Ooh La La'. 'Ooh La La' features Ronnie Lane on the vocals 'Ooh La La' is later to be covered by Stewart in one of his latter pop albums.[wish i knew all i know now, when i was younger]. I came to find this album in a store in Istanbul(yeah i live in Turkey).
